This original 90x90cm canvas is part of the ‘5am’ Collection.
A collection of abstract fluid paintings portraying the thoughts & feelings of early Motherhood. The newborn days. When you’re up at 5am & feel like you’re the only one awake, even though millions of woman are awake with you feeding their child.
‘Drowning’ was a painting created over one weekend when Albert was around 9 months old. Sarah felt completely overwhelmed. Every time she gained a break from Bertie, she cleaned. After a minor meltdown the day before, Sarah claimed “I cannot do this anymore, I simply can’t”. Everything – just everything – felt too much. The role as a new Mama, the housework, the shopping, the cleaning, the washing, the putting clean laundry away, the endless lists. That’s the darkness you see in the bottom right of this piece, which creeps in still every now & again. But since Sarah & her husband enrolled the help of a cleaner to carry out a full house clean each week, a huge weight lifted.
All pieces from this series are limited edition original mixed media acrylic paintings on premium canvas.
Each piece has been hand painted by Sarah using a mixture of acrylic, resin paints and mixed media to create shine & texture.
Please note that, each piece is an authentic piece of original artwork. There is only 1 edition of this piece of art. Once 1/1 of each piece has sold these pieces will not be remade; Sarah can try to recreate a similar piece on a custom order.
